Ella Langley's 'Choosin' Texas' Breaks Billboard Hot 100 Record
What began as a bruised country two-step has carried Ella Langley beyond two of pop’s most enduring chart runs.
Ella Langley has made Billboard Hot 100 history with her crossover hit "Choosin' Texas."
The song's 15th nonconsecutive week at No. 1 established a new record for the longest-leading non-holiday song credited solely to a woman. It moved past Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together," which each ruled the chart for 14 weeks.
"Choosin' Texas" also matched Harry Styles' "As It Was," which spent 15 weeks atop the Hot 100 in 2022. Langley's single is her first No. 1 on the all-genre chart.
Released in October 2025, "Choosin' Texas" appears on Langley's second studio album, Dandelion. She wrote the song with Miranda Lambert, Joybeth Taylor, and Luke Dick, while Langley, Lambert, and Ben West handled production. Lambert also contributed background vocals.
The country ballad follows a woman realizing that the man she loves still belongs to the Lone Star State. References to Abilene, two-stepping, and George Strait's "Amarillo by Morning" helped give the song a distinctly Texan identity while its polished production carried it across country, pop, and adult contemporary radio.
"Choosin' Texas" previously made Langley the first woman to simultaneously lead the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and Country Airplay charts. Its success also helped propel Dandelion to No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
