My Chemical Romance Hints at Fifth Album During San Antonio Tour Finale
Gerard Way gave fans their clearest reason yet to believe in the long-awaited "MCR5" during the band's massive San Antonio tour finale.
My Chemical Romance have reignited hopes for a long-awaited fifth studio album after closing their 2026 North American stadium run Saturday night at San Antonio's Alamodome.
Addressing the crowd near the end of the concert, frontman Gerard Way acknowledged the band's desire to record another album, telling fans, "We’ve kind of really always wanted to make another record."
Although Way stopped short of formally announcing a project, he suggested that new music remains part of the band's future. "We don't know when it'll be. But it'll be awesome," he added, according to Loudwire.
The comments represent one of the band's clearest public acknowledgments of a possible fifth album. My Chemical Romance have not released a full-length studio record since 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The group later issued the Conventional Weapons singles collection before breaking up in 2013.
Following their 2019 reunion, the band returned with "The Foundations of Decay" in 2022, but no additional studio recordings have followed. The group closed Saturday's 26-song performance with the standalone single, which Way dedicated to its late co-producer Doug McKean.
The San Antonio concert also featured a surprise appearance by King Diamond during "Mama." The legendary metal vocalist joined My Chemical Romance for the song before ceremonially "knighting" the members of the band.
Elsewhere in the show, Way brought the tour's fictional dictatorship storyline to a dramatic conclusion by beheading a prop representing Draag's Grand Immortal Dictator. An onstage election then installed Way as the character’s successor.
My Chemical Romance performed The Black Parade in its entirety before moving into a second set that included "Helena," "Boy Division," "Na Na Na," "Summertime," "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)," and other selections from across the band's catalog.
The group still has several performances scheduled before the end of the year, including multiple Hollywood Bowl dates and a November run through Southeast Asia. No timetable for a new album has been revealed.
