James Hetfield Says Metallica's Only Agenda Is 'Love, Energy, and Heavy Music'
James Hetfield told fans at Metallica's Sphere show that the band came to provide an escape — not to push an outside agenda.
James Hetfield made Metallica's intentions clear during the band's Saturday, Oct. 10, performance at the Sphere in Las Vegas: leave the outside world at the door and let the music take over.
Addressing the audience, Hetfield thanked fans for the time, travel, and money they had committed to attending the show. He then drew a distinction between Metallica and performers who use the concert stage to promote their views.
"Metallica is not here, like some other entertainers, to influence you with their bullshit," Hetfield told the crowd. "Metallica's agenda is love, energy, and heavy music, baby."
Hetfield did not identify any performer, political issue, or controversy as the target of his remarks. Although the statement quickly prompted speculation online.
Instead, Hetfield framed the concert as a temporary refuge from the conflicts and distractions beyond the venue — a place for the band and its audience to focus on the communal release of a Metallica show.
The performance was part of Metallica's ongoing Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere, where the band is continuing their "No Repeat Weekend" format with different setlists across paired performances.
